Preparing the Way

As the days shorten, we dress our homes in evergreens and light candles to curse the dark that lies within and without us. A simple circle of evergreens stands for unending love of God and the eternal life promised to us. Three candles of royalty and mourning purple and a single joyful pink taper are lit each sabbath with prayers of hope. The center of the circle of evergreens is Christ, the true center of the Christmas season. Born without sin, He stands alone represented by an alabaster light. We await His coming, not as a swaddled babe in the manger, but as He comes again to judge the world.
These weeks, we remember His first coming while we remember and prepare for His second for we know not the hour.
